TBT names Roberts head football coach

Posted Wednesday, March 16, 2011 by Bill Ward

Jayson Roberts, Tampa Bay Tech's defensive coordinator who helped guide the Titans to three straight region semifinals appearances, has been promoted to head coach, TBT athletic director Joe Reid said Wednesday afternoon.

Roberts is in his sixth season as a Titans assistant coach, all on defense.

"This is my dream job-what I've been waiting for," Roberts said. "I was here with C.C. from the year we were 0-10 and I saw the work he put in to turn things around and I know what it will take to maintain it and carry it to the next level."

The Titans job became available late last month when former coach C.C. Culpepper resigned in order to take an assistant position at Grambling State under former Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Doug Williams.

When Culpepper stepped down, Roberts, who had been with the program during a rebuilding process that ended several years of winless seasons, was named interim head coach. Now the program is his.
